FAQs – Quilts & Blankets

1. Which is better for Indian weather — a quilt or a cotton blanket? 

It depends on how and where you sleep. If you sleep in an air-conditioned room set below 22°C, a quilt — especially a 200+ TC cotton quilt — will keep you comfortable through the night. If you sleep under a fan or in a room that gets mild at night, a cotton blanket is lighter, faster-drying, and easier to manage through the seasons. Many Indian households keep both: a blanket for fans and a quilt for AC nights.

2. What thread count should I choose for a quilt? 

For everyday use: 132–180 TC is perfectly comfortable and easy to care for. For a softer, more premium feel: 220–233 TC (Arden or Zephyr) is the ideal upgrade. For hotel-grade luxury: the 350 TC Luxury Loom Impressions Egyptian Cotton Quilt or the 400 TC Orion are in a different class altogether — visibly smoother, denser, and richer.

3. Is a dohar the same as a quilt? 

No. A dohar is a three-layered muslin fabric — much lighter and more breathable than a quilt. It is designed for Indian summers and mild monsoon nights. A quilt has a padded fill between two fabric layers, making it warmer and more structured. For year-round versatility, many families use a dohar in summer and switch to a cotton quilt in winter and monsoon.

4. Can I use a double quilt on a king-size bed? 

A standard double quilt from Spaces is sized for a 60"×75" mattress and provides comfortable coverage with some overhang. For a king-size (72"×78") or larger bed, the overhang will be minimal. For the best coverage on king beds, pair the quilt with a large bedsheet and consider a duvet cover for a fully finished look.

5. How do I wash and care for a cotton quilt? 

Machine wash on a gentle cycle at 30–40°C with a mild detergent. Avoid wringing. Tumble dry on low heat or air-dry flat in shade — never hang a wet quilt by one end as it distorts the fill. Do not use bleach. For Egyptian cotton quilts (350–400 TC), cold wash is recommended to preserve the fine weave. A well-cared-for cotton quilt lasts 3–5 years without losing its shape or warmth.
